Eco-friendly gets thrown around a lot in the car wash business, but a Vermont car wash owner is serious — from recycling battleships to construct the building to harvesting rainwater, the Eco Car Wash lives up to its name.

Aaron Vincellette, owner of Eco Car Wash in Williston, spent six years planning his environmental car wash business, Vermont’s WCAX reported. Doors opened to the public late last spring.

Vincellette fashioned a building made of recycled materials, including decommissioned battleships, glass and polyacrylic for the building’s roof. The glass roof allows sunlight to enter and is designed to collect rainwater and melted snow. By harvesting the sunlight and rainwater, Vincellette consumes less electricity and doesn’t need to rely on the town’s water treatment plant to receive water. The rainwater is instead collected in a tank and filtered until it’s ready to use in a wash.

Compared to the 150 gallons of water spent washing a car at home, Vincellette’s Eco Car Wash uses just 12 gallons of water per car. And Eco Car Wash’s soaps are also biodegradable, phosphate free and EPA approved.
