Car Wash Fire Near Engulfs Three Cars And Nearby Gas Station In England

Screen Shot 2015-07-15 at 9.36.54 AMFirefighters are being credited with preventing a major disaster in Northampton, England where a blaze at a car wash nearly spread to a nearby petrol station. The Northampton Chronicle & Echo is reporting that a fire started at a car wash on Grafton Street that shut down traffic in both directions.

The car wash itself sustained significant damage. The fire began in the store room. Firefighters sealed the garage where three cars were being stored to protect the fuel supply, which might have also burst into flames.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, but firefighters say they acted in time to prevent the nearby gas station from being affected.

It took 90 minutes to knock down and extinguish the fire but video footage shows the smoke lingered long after.
Fires at car washes are not uncommon, as evidenced by a quick search of relevant news stories this past summer alone. Businesses with adjoining functions such as gas stations or oil changes pose unique dangers.
