Two years have passed since a father son team opened a car wash aimed at helping those with Autism.John and Tom D’Eri opened Rising Tide Car Wash in Parkland, Florida to help their son and brother Andrew, who has Autism and was turning 22 when they came up with the idea.

In the United States, 22 is the age at which most government funding expires for those with Autism as they look to transition into adult life.Knowing how difficult it would be for Andrew to find employment, his family came up with the concept of a car wash. The business model allows for people like Andrew to engage in simple, repetitive tasks that they can master over time.

Now, 80 percent of employees at the car wash are on the Autism spectrum.

“We view autism as one of our key competitive advantages,” Tom D’Eri told Acton Institute Power Blog. “Our employees follow processes, they’re really excited to be here, [and] they have a great eye for detail.”
