A new 24 hour car wash in Louisiana is paying homage to a musical genre Lafayette is known for. Zydeco Ride & Shine lets customers listen to zydeco music while they have their wheels cleaned, The Advertiser reports. The music typically features guitar and accordians and originiated in the state.
Owner Burley Pellerin said he got the idea after looking for a new job. He had spent time at home caring for his son when he got the urge to work again. That’s how he came up with the idea for Zydeco.
“I wanted the name to tie into the community, make sure it fit,” he explains. “The Clifton Chenier Center is just up the road – and he’s the original zydeco king. I wanted to pay homage to that, to the community in general. I grew up around that music, so when I had the idea, a light bulb went off, and I thought it would be awesome.”
In keeping with the theme, each of the car wash options Pellerin offers is named after a musician. There’s the Clifton, the Sydney, the Dopsie or the Boozoo. They range in price from $12 to $6. The 24/7 car wash is touchless and features glass windows along the tunnel for a glimpse at the colorful inner workings of the automatic wash. Because it’s open around the clock, Pellerin had a state-of-the-art security system put in place. There are 14 security cameras aimed at each of the machines for added protection against theft and for the comfort of customers coming by for a late night wash.
For the full Zydeco experience, Pellerin recommends you roll your windows down to hear the music. “Right now, I have three Clifton Chenier songs playing,” he said.
