Are you effectively marketing on Facebook? Chances are, if you have not started using Facebook pixels, you are shooting in the dark. Here is a simple 4-step process to ensure you are getting the most out of your advertising dollars by creating your first Facebook Pixel.
Step 1: Create a Facebook Business Account
Creating a Facebook business account will streamline your ad creation process. Using a business account will also enable you to outsource your Facebook advertising to an agency without giving them access to your personal account. This is important since sharing access to your Facebook account can get your account shut down and put a halt to your advertising campaigns. Additionally, Facebook also gives more validity to ads created in a business account. Setting up a business account in Facebook is free and takes only a few minutes. Step 2: Create a Facebook Pixel
Click the “Facebook Ads” tab in your business account and then the “All Tools” link. This will enlarge the window. Find the “Pixels” link under the “Assets” tab. This will take you to a page that will prompt you to create a Pixel. Once created Facebook will ask you to choose how you want to install the Pixel. Select the Copy and Paste Code option in the window.
In the next window under direction 1.2 turn on the “Use Advanced Matching” option and then copy to code to your clipboard. DO NOT modify the code under any circumstances.

Step 3: Install the Facebook Pixel on your site
Once you have created and copied the pixel to your clipboard. Copy the pixel to EVERY PAGE on your website between the <head> and </head> tags. When you insert the code paste it just before the </head> tag. This will ensure you are not disturbing any other codes residing in the head of your website.
Step 4: Tell Facebook what you want to Track
Head back to the “Business Manager” and click “Custom Conversions” under the “Measure and Report” menu. Then click the “Create Custom Conversion” button. Then copy and paste the URL from your website you want to track. For example, if you have a link to a coupon, copy the URL link and paste it into the “URL contains” input in Facebook. Now everytime someone visits your offer, a pixel will fire and you can track the effectiveness of the campaign.
You can track up to 40 different actions, simply repeat the above process until you are tracking all the data you desire.
Tracking pixels can help you best define your audience and give your ads a higher relevance score. Facebook will reward your higher relevance with lower ad costs.
