A Manteca man got more than he bargained for at a local car wash on June 10th. After a verbal confrontation, he was shot in the butt. And not the sort of shot you get from a doctor.
Three teenagers have been arrested and charged in the case. Their charges include conspiracy to commit a felony, assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder according to Manteca Police Sgt. Stephen Schluer.
The shooting happened on June 12 at QuicKi-Clean carwash on the corner of Yosemite Avenue and North Washington Street. The event took place at 12:30 pm in broad daylight.
When first responders arrived on the scene, they found the victim standing next to his late model Mazda on Washington Avenue. He was suffering from a gunshot wound to the buttocks.
During the verbal altercation, the victim allegedly left his car and was shot in an alleyway approximately 70 feet from his vehicle. Police officers provided first aid until ambulance personnel arrived to take the victim to the nearby San Joaquin County General Hospital Trauma Unit.
According to Sgt. Schluer , “The victim advised officers that he had been shot after leaving the carwash. He did not provide information to the possible suspect or suspects.”
The victim was initially listed in critical but stable condition prior to surgery, according to Schluer.
The crime scene and victim’s car, carwash, and adjacent properties were cordoned off by police officers. Additionally, police officers blocked off a section of the east to the west alley running between Fremont Avenue and Washington.
The four Manteca first responding officers interviewed witnesses of the shooting in the local area. The car wash allowed officers to do a thorough search of the property and collect evidence in a large paper bag. The street was closed for approximately three hours, and cars parked on the street in front of a small apartment complex were not allowed to leave until the investigation was complete.
The suspects were later identified during a line-up at the Manteca police department later that afternoon. Fortunately, the victim survived and is expected to make a full recovery from the shooting.
